- On the old computer, embed the ACDSee metadata (e.g., categories, ACDSee keywords, face data) into the files using ACDSee. If you have already embedded the metadata, skip steps 2 through 5, go directly to step 6, and continue with the remaining steps.
- In the Catalog pane, click Embed Pending under the Special Items section. If the Catalog pane isn't open, go to the Panes menu and enable Catalog.
- Click on the menu Edit (not the Edit mode) and select Select All Images.
Note: If your image collection is large, embedding may take a long time. To manage this more efficiently, consider embedding a smaller batch of images per session instead of all images at once.
- With all the images highlighted, right-click on a thumbnail and click Metadata | Embed Database Information.
Note: If your images do not support embedded XMP (e.g., RAW file), ensure that you have selected Write sidecar files for formats that do not support embedded XMP. ACDSee will create an XMP file for each image with the same filename.
- Click Yes to start the Embed Database Information process.
- After all database information is embedded with your images, copy your images to the new computer. If you have XMP files, also copy them with your images.
Note: You can copy and transfer images to the new computer with an external hard drive, DVD, or through a network.
- On the new computer, install the current version of ACDSee.
- Launch ACDSee after installation and activation, go to File > Database > New to create a database.
- In ACDSee, click on Tools | Database and select Catalog Files.
- On the Catalog Files window, add the folders where your images are stored. Ensure that the "ACDSee Metadata, including categories..." option is enabled. If you're using facial recognition, make certain that both the "Face Data, including face outlines and names" and "ACDSee Face Data" options are selected.
- Click Start when you are ready to continue.
- After cataloging all your images, the database will retrieve and store all the embedded database information.
